the Women's March on Colorado

Times are uncertain. Change is necessary. The Women's Foundation of Colorado has been proud to join the Women's March on Colorado in both 2017 and 2018 to support social justice, human rights, and equality.

2018 Women's March Remarks by President and CEO Lauren Y. Casteel

"We the women gather here today to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.

We, the warrior wonder women of every background, identity, religion, political affiliation, and ability gather here to build upon our movement with linked arms, hopeful hearts, and the undeniable knowledge that when we come together, we are powerful. We stood here in unity one year ago, and since then, we’ve seen our power multiply, matter, and move mountains when others HEAR. OUR. TRUTH.

We the teachers, retail workers, bus drivers, domestic workers, and CEOs gather here to say we will not accept anything less than equal pay and we will no longer be subjected to systemic financial abuse. Access to family planning services, family leave, affordable high-quality child care, and livable wages promote our general well-being for generations to come.

We the survivors of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and domestic violence gather here to build the bonds of safety that heal. TIME IS UP. And the TIME IS NOW for the men who love us and march with us to use their power bravely, responsibly, and compassionately. We march not from each other, but with each other.

We the women of color, refugees, immigrants, Dreamers, veterans, elders, the LGBTQ community, and others whose contributions and leadership have been discounted, denied, and devalued for generations – we gather here to share our stories and initiate dialogue. As Oprah said, speaking our truth is the most powerful tool we have. We must continue to use our voices so others can HEAR. OUR. TRUTH.

We the women who have power and privilege, gather here to listen and learn and love and leverage our resources. We support organizations that strengthen opportunities for all women. We pledge to speak up when others can’t and open doors, so they can. We pledge to reach up, down, backwards, and forwards to create equitable opportunities for us all.

We the women of Colorado, gather here, convening courageously to protect our progress and accelerate our advancement. We lift our voices, register our votes, and use our time, talent, treasure, and testimony to drive change. We know that strengthening opportunities for women, strengthens families, communities, and our entire state.

And we at The Women’s Foundation of Colorado, the state’s only community foundation focused on strengthening our state through commitment to women and their families, dedicate our legacy, diverse voices, knowledge, and networks to creating more pathways to security until every woman thrives and Colorado rises.

We the People of Colorado hold these truths to be self-evident that ALL women and men are created equal and that they are endowed with certain unalienable rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

We the People of Colorado know the truth shall set us free."
